Brake Pad Factory Upgrades Take Center Stage To Meet Euro 7 And EV Market Demands
As the Euro 7 emission regulation is set for full implementation across the EU in late 2026, global brake pad factories are rushing to upgrade formulas, production lines and testing systems to satisfy stricter environmental and safety standards.
The new rule adds rigid limits on brake particulate emissions, with pure electric vehicles capped at just 3mg/km PM10 output. Traditional high-copper, high-dust semi-metallic brake pads can no longer be sold in European markets, forcing factories to phase out outdated friction materials and mass-produce copper-free NAO ceramic brake pads as the mainstream product.
Leading export-oriented brake pad factories have built dedicated R&D labs and dynamometer test benches to develop EV-exclusive brake pads. Unlike fuel car brake pads, EV-specific formulas are optimized to solve low-speed squeal and brake disc rust caused by frequent regenerative braking, paired with customized stainless steel or textured adhesive shims to cut NVH complaints.

Certification thresholds also rise sharply. Reliable brake pad factories must hold IATF 16949 and ECE R90 certifications to qualify for European aftermarket orders. Small manufacturers lacking independent formula development and complete testing equipment are being eliminated amid industry reshuffling.
Market data forecasts the copper-free brake pad segment will grow at a 5.1% compound annual rate from 2026 to 2036. Brake pad factories with green, EV-adapted production capacity will grab major shares in Germany, France and other European aftermarket markets at this year's Automechanika Frankfurt exhibition.
Industry analysts noted that future competition among brake pad factories will shift from low-price rivalry to eco-friendly material innovation, customized accessory matching and stable batch quality control, creating long-term cooperation opportunities for global auto parts distributors.
