Steel Backplate Management and Cleaning
Introduction to Steel Backplates
1. Core Functions
- Securing Friction Material
The steel backplate uses adhesive to firmly bond friction materials (e.g., ceramic, carbon fiber) to the brake pad, ensuring uniform pressure against the brake disc or drum during braking to generate stopping force.
- Transmitting Braking Force
During braking, the steel backplate withstands significant pressure, efficiently transferring friction to the brake disc/drum to ensure prompt vehicle deceleration or stopping.
2. Structural Components
- Steel Plate: The primary load-bearing structure, coated with anti-rust layers. High-end products may incorporate laser vibration measurement technology to optimize structure and reduce brake noise.
- Heat Insulation Layer: Made of non-conductive materials to prevent thermal damage to the steel plate caused by friction heat.
- Friction Block: Composed of friction material and adhesive, directly contacting the brake disc/drum to generate friction.
Steel Backplate Management
- Incoming Inspection
- Parameters Checked: Appearance, dimensions, flatness.
- Tools: Calipers, height gauges, feeler gauges, flat platforms, dial indicators, V-blocks, universal protractors.
- Sampling Method: Random sampling from upper, middle, and lower layers of the same model batch.
- Acceptance Criteria: Strict adherence to a "zero-defect" policy.
- Inspection Standard
- Appearance:
- No oil, rust, burrs, dents, scratches, or oxidation.
- Key areas must have a bright surface covering ≥60% of the area.
- Critical Dimensions, Assembly Tolerances, and Flatness: Strictly comply with engineering drawings and certified product specifications.
- Warehousing and Issuance
- Storage: Approved backplates are logged into the system; defective units are returned to suppliers.
- Issuance: Production teams submit a "Backplate Issuance Form" to warehouse staff, who retrieve and place backplates in designated areas, updating the system accordingly.

Steel Backplate Cleaning
- Rust Prevention and Cleaning
- Apply rust preventive oil during long-term storage.
- Regularly use specialized cleaning equipment to remove oil and contaminants, ensuring friction performance remains unaffected.
1. Cleaning Solution Preparation:
- Add 120 kg of water to the cleaning tank.
- Mix in 6.3 kg of powdered metal cleaner.
- Stir thoroughly and test pH using test strips.
- Replace solution weekly.
- Top up with 5% concentration solution per shift if levels drop below the filter mesh by 1 cm.
2. Operational Process:
- Power on the system; adjust the frequency converter and ultrasonic power to meet technical specifications.
- Activate heating for the drying oven and cleaning tank. Start circulation fans and pumps; check for spray nozzle blockages.
- Begin operation only when temperatures reach specified levels.
- Load backplates onto the conveyor belt individually.

Summary:
The steel backplate is a critical component for ensuring brake performance. Regular inspections, high-quality materials, and scientific maintenance are essential to extend its service life and guarantee driving safety.
