Brake Pad Factory Leads Industry Transformation With Smart Manufacturing & Global Expansion
Driven by the new energy vehicle boom and global trade restructuring, China's brake pad factories are accelerating the shift from traditional manufacturing to smart production, while seizing global market share through overseas capacity expansion, ushering in a new era of high‑quality development.
Recently, leading brake pad factories have achieved major breakthroughs in production upgrades and market expansion. After acquiring the Mexican production base of global braking giant Tenneco, Friction‑1 Brake Technology officially launched its overseas plant in October 2025. Its first batch of premium brake pads was exported to the U.S., with core raw materials and key components supplied by its headquarters in Xiantao, Hubei, replicating China's smart manufacturing system abroad. The Xiantao base has formed a 1,000‑mu intelligent factory cluster, with an annual output of 2.4 million brake pads and 30 million brake discs, exporting 90% of products to Europe and America and covering 98% of global vehicle models.

Meanwhile, the construction of dedicated new‑energy brake pad factories is accelerating nationwide. Zhejiang Wansai's RMB 1.36‑billion intelligent base is under rapid development, targeting an annual OEM capacity of 10 million sets to meet low‑dust, high‑heat‑resistance braking demands for electric vehicles. Zhuhai Grace's Phase‑I smart factory is operational, building an industry benchmark with online inspection and digital control systems. Its three production lines deliver an annual output value of RMB 250 million, focusing on high‑end models such as Mercedes‑Benz and Volvo.
Technological upgrading has become core competitiveness. A Guangrao‑based brake pad manufacturer shortened production time by 30% and doubled per‑capita efficiency through equipment renewal, reaching an annual capacity of 50 million sets with over 25% market share in the new‑energy sector. Hebei Tiantuo adopted Industry 4.0 technologies, equipping two smart production lines with 108 high‑precision testing devices, achieving 99.8% product consistency for applications in new‑energy vehicles, wind power and more.
Industry analysts note that as new‑energy vehicle penetration exceeds 40%, brake pad factories are accelerating transformation, prioritizing copper‑free eco‑friendly and ceramic‑matrix composite materials. Smart, green and customized production has become mainstream. Over the next five years, industry capacity will concentrate among top players, with brake pad factories boasting global layout and technological innovation leading global competition.
