2026 Industry News: Brake Pad Factories Accelerate Green & NEV Transformation
Since the start of 2026, brake pad factories have entered a critical transition period driven by strict global environmental regulations and the booming new energy vehicle (NEV) market, triggering a rapid reshuffle of the entire industry.
Two core trends are dominating the sector:
First, copper-free and eco-friendly production is being fully rolled out. Under pressure from EU standards and requirements of leading domestic automakers, brake pad factories in major production clusters such as Shandong and Zhejiang are intensifying production line upgrades. Over 40% of the industry's capacity has shifted to copper-free formulations, with low-metallic and ceramic brake pads becoming the mainstream products. Production capacity is increasingly concentrated in top factories certified by EU ECE R90 and other international standards.

Second, factories are racing to expand NEV-dedicated production lines. Given the heavier weight and frequent regenerative braking of NEVs, manufacturers are ramping up production of high-temperature resistant, low-wear brake pads. Industry data shows that the growth rate of demand for NEV-specific brake pads in 2026 will far outpace the industry average, making it a key track for factory expansion and profit growth.
With the in-depth advancement of intelligent manufacturing and global layout, brake pad factories are evolving from pure manufacturing terminals to core hubs integrating R&D, production and global supply chain services, leading the high-quality development of the automotive braking industry.
